Car insurance is a payment we make begrudgingly, cursing the fact we are paying for something we hope we never have to use.

Unfortunately, accidents happen; whether they are small fender benders or more serious crashes, it is helpful to know that your insurance company is there to back you up and take some weight off your shoulders when it comes to repairing or replacing your vehicle.

Unfortunately, there are some instances where an insurance company may reject your insurance claim. This can leave people in a precarious situation, so it is important to know the most common reasons insurance companies deny claims in order to avoid them:

Incorrect information

It is vital that when you claim, all the information you give is accurate. If you give incorrect information at any stage of the claim process, such as failing to disclose important information relevant to the claim or give false details on how the car was damaged, your insurance company could reject your claim.

Exceed Policy Limits

Each car insurance policy has limitations to its coverage. If your claim exceeds your policy or if it has already been exhausted, you can expect your insurance provider to refuse to cover the amount over your policy limit. Your policy also determines the type of damages your insurance provider will pay for: attempting to claim damages that aren’t covered in your policy will most likely result in a rejection.

Breaking the law

You may have the right coverage in your policy for your claim but if you are proven to have been breaking the law at the time of the accident; for example, driving without a license, exceeding the speed limit or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, your insurer can still deny your claim.

Lack of due care

If you are claiming for stolen valuables but have not taken care to hide them from view your insurance provider may reject your claim as your policy will stipulate that you take all precautions to avoid theft by not leaving mobile phones, laptops etc. on show whilst unattended.
