Who Are Ovo Energy?

Ovo Energy a Bristol-based firm, was launched in 2009. It’s made a big impact since then with almost 700,000 customers. The company was started as a result of friends sitting round a table working out what they did not like about current suppliers and setting out to fix it. In our opinion that’s a pretty place to start when launching a competitor business. They state on their website that their main focus is on honesty and openness.

Ovo won awards for both energy supplier of the year and value for money in 2017.

What do they charge?

Ovo is renowned as being competitively priced, perhaps even clinching the coveted position of cheapest in the market. However like other smaller suppliers they have had to recently increase prices by 8% as a result of wholesale energy costs rising, partially caused by the strength of the pound falling since Brexit.

How is Their Customer Service?

Trust Pilot: On Trust Pilot they have a respectable rating of 8.6/10 from over 8,000 reviews. 75% of customers on TrustPilot have rated them excellent with only 6% rating Ovo as Poor or Bad. Out of Energy suppliers on TrustPilot Ovo are ranked 8 out of 22 in the electric power category and 8 out of 23 in the natural gas company.

Facebook: What is also quite refreshing is to see that they reply to correspondence through Facebook typically within 1 hour. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to get hold of a company when you need to. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Ovo.

Official Ofgem: Incredibly Ovo received just 78 complaints from 100,000 customer accounts which it does make it the best performing supplier in the small to medium sized business category.

How Green Is Ovo?

Ovo’s standard tariff offers 33% green energy, which makes them one of the greenest suppliers out there, well done Ovo!

If you really care at the environment (and we hope you do) then you can use 100% renewable energy which will cost you just £5 extra per month at the time of writing this review. On top of that, Ovo will plant 5 trees on your behalf as a customer opting for the green energy tariff.

What do we think overall?

We really like companies that take pride in their customer service and that’s why we’re giving Ovo our stamp of approval. To have so little complaints from 100,000 customers really is worth shouting about and when you tie that up with their 100% renewable tariff, we think companies like Ovo are making the world a better place.
